Have you ever been tired of all the titles you see on bestsellers’ lists from major publications and large online retailers? Have you looked at them and thought, “I just don’t want to read any of those books?” Do you find yourself reading books from many different genres depending on your mood or interests at any given time? Do you ever wonder how many wonderful books you’ve missed because they were published a few years back, but they didn’t make it to a bestseller list? If you said yes to any of these things, I hope you’ll enjoy hanging out here.
My name is Mary, and I’m a former librarian with 20+ years of experience. I’ve read books from bestsellers’ lists and independent publishers and authors. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the explosion of independent publishing that blew the traditionally closed-door publishing industry wide open. Don’t get me wrong. I still love a good traditionally published book, but I’m glad that the keys to the publishing kingdom are now more widely available. After all those years in the library field, I decided to start taking my own writing career seriously, and what better way to begin than by promoting the work of other people!
As I’m reinventing myself from a librarian to a writer, I feel like multiple parts inside of me have had to die off and other parts have risen from the ashes. There were things I thought I could never do, and now, I’m doing them. It’s rather amazing to go from, “I can’t do that” to “I can’t believe I’m trying this” to “I’m actually doing this!” I’m a writer at heart, and it took me a long time to admit it to myself and everyone else. I hope these reviews and posts promote other writers and inspire people to pick up a good book to read as often as they can.
On this blog, you will find reviews of a wide range of books from many genres, eras, and publishers. I read everything: classic fiction, historical non-fiction, young adult fiction, Christian fiction, cozy mysteries, satire, science fiction, fantasy, true crime, graphic novels/manga, and beyond. My career opened the door to reading all kinds of material, and I highly recommend giving something new a try. You never know what amazing author you might discover!
Aside from reviews, I’ll share things I learned in the library field such as good places to find your next favorite book or author. I’ll introduce authors whose work or personal stories are particularly interesting. Plus, I’ll share my own reading lists with people since I’ve been tracking what I’ve read since the early 90s when I was 11 years old. (Yes, you read that correctly. Ha!). I hope you will find a new title or author here that opens your mind and imagination to reading new titles that you’ve never considered before. Also, I’d love to hear about suggestions of titles and authors to read because I love to try new authors and subjects. I hope you find a comfortable and interesting home here, and please remember to always be kind.
